Board of Elections Seeks Student Aides to Work at 2008 Election
The Montgomery County Board of Elections is seeking students, grades six to twelve, to serve as Election Day student aides during the 2008 Presidential General Election. Students must attend mandatory training to serve on Election Day and, if applicable, receive Student Service Learning (SSL) credits. Students will be placed according to home addresses into neighboring precincts. This initiative combines civic participation with an opportunity to observe democracy in action. This program is available to all students within a public, private, independent, religious, or home-school setting located in Montgomery County. U.S. citizenship is not a pre-requisite to participate. Students with bilingual and American Sign Language skills are encouraged to apply. Applications may be requested via e-mail at Future.Vote@montgomerycountymd.gov. Students will be notified if selected to participate.

Montgomery Parks Harvest Festival, October 4-5
Location: Derwood Maryland.
It's time for our annual 2 day fall festival celebrating what "Life on the Farm" was like at the turn of the century, back in the early 1900's. Held at one of our prettiest historic properties in Montgomery County, we need over 100 volunteers to help our park naturalists and historians show our visitors what crafts, machinery, food, and games were like back then during the fall harvest time. This is a family oriented activity that is very popular, so we need lots of volunteers 14 and older for one or both days! SSL approved. Lunch and a free t-shirt are provided. Community Service Day, October 25
Join with thousands of your fellow county residents working on projects to improve our community in celebration of Montgomery County’s 22nd Annual Community Service Day, Saturday October 25th, with Sunday projects as well. This wonderful day of volunteering started in Montgomery County and grew into a nationwide event known as “Make a Difference Day.”
Many schools have established annual fall clean ups or beautification projects for Community Service Day. If you have a project planned for your school or neighborhood and it is not registered with us, click here for a Self-Generated Project Form so we can recognize your work on this day of service or you can go to http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/content/volunteer/csd2008.asp.
